Paying in stores or within apps has never been easier. Gone are the days of searching for your wallet. The wasted moments finding the right card. Now payments happen with a single touch. While Apple Pay® offers you a convenient way to pay on the go, you still enjoy all the benefits and protections of your ACCU debit or credit card. Visit the Apple Pay® website to learn more.

Setup is simple.

Passbook already stores your boarding passes, tickets, coupons, and more. Now it can store your credit and debit cards, too. To get started, you can add the credit or debit card from your iTunes account to Passbook by simply entering the card security code.

To add a card on iPhone 6, iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 3, go into Settings, open Passbook & Apple Pay®, and select "Add Credit or Debit Card". On iPhone, you can also just open Passbook, then swipe down and tap the plus sign. From there, use your iSight camera to enter the card information or type it in manually. The card you had stored in iTunes is your default payment card, but you can always switch it in Settings.

More secure payments.

Every time you hand over your credit or debit card to pay, your card number and identity are visible. With Apple Pay®, instead of using your actual credit and debit card numbers when you add your card, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted, and securely stored in the Secure Element, a dedicated chip in iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. These numbers are never stored on Apple® servers. And when you make a purchase, the Device Account Number, along with a transaction-specific dynamic security code, is used to process your payment. So your actual credit or debit card numbers are never shared by Apple® with merchants or transmitted with payment.

Keep your purchases private.

Apple® doesn't save your transaction information. With Apple Pay®, your payments are private. Apple Pay® doesn't store the details of your transactions so they can't be tied back to you. Your most recent purchases are kept in Passbook for your convenience, but that's as far as it goes.

Keep your cards in your wallet. Since you don't have to show your credit or debit card, you never reveal your name, card number, or security code to the cashier when you pay in a store. This additional layer of privacy helps ensure that your information stays where it belongs. With you.

To use Apple Pay in stores:

  • Look for the contactless and Apple Pay® symbol at the register or the Apple Pay® logo
  • Hold your iPhone near the contactless reader with your finger on Touch ID™
  • Keep your phone by the contactless reader until it vibrates and beeps indicating your payment was accepted

Please keep in mind the following about Apple Pay:

  • For security purposes, Apple Pay® uses a Device Account Number which is a unique number assigned to each card

Making payments with Apple Pay® is easy. The entire transaction is secure, as your credit and debit card numbers aren't stored on the device or on Apple's® server, so they're never shared with the merchant. And, if your iPhone is ever lost or stolen, just use the "Find My iPhone" feature.

In participating apps, checking out is as easy as selecting Apple Pay® and placing your finger on Touch ID™.

Q. What is Apple Pay®?

A. Apple Pay allows you to pay for your purchases with your iPhone® 6 or iPhone 6 Plus by holding your phone near a contactless reader at participating merchants. You can also use your phone, iPad Air™ 2 and iPad mini™ 3 to pay within certain apps.

Q. How do I add my cards to Apple Pay?

A. On iPhone 6, iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 3, access the Settings app, scroll down to Passbook® & Apple Pay, then enter your cards by tapping "Add Credit or Debit Card." You can then use your iSight® camera to enter your card or type the information in manually.

Q. When I add my card to Apple Pay it doesn't look like the card in my wallet. Why?

A. Apple Pay uses a graphical representation, not an exact replica of your card.

Q. When I use the camera to add the card, the card details are not showing correctly. What do I do?

A. In the event your card detail cannot be captured by your phone through your camera, proceed with entering in all of the required fields manually. This will also process and add your card normally into Apple Pay.

Q. How do I change my default card to my card?

A. The credit or debit card associated with your iTunes® account or the first card you add to Passbook is your default card. To change your default card:

1. Go to Settings > Passbook & Apple Pay

2. Tap Default Card

3. Choose a new card

Q. How do I pay with a card other than my default card?

A. 1. Position your iPhone close to the contactless reader without placing your finger on Touch ID®. After your iPhone wakes up, your default card will appear on your screen.

2. Tap your default card to display a list of available cards, then tap the card you want to use.

3. Position your finger on the Touch ID sensor, and hold your iPhone close to the reader to complete your transaction. Some stores may also ask you to sign a receipt, depending on the transaction amount.

Q. Are my payments safe with Apple Pay?

A. Yes. When you use Apple Pay, your card number isn't stored on your phone or given to the merchant. A unique digital code is created specifically for that device. You still enjoy all the benefits of your credit or debit card, which includes our Zero Liability policy that protects you from unauthorized purchases.

Q. How are my privacy and personal information protected?

A. Since Apple Pay doesn't store your credit or debit card number on the device, you never reveal your name, card number or security code to merchants.

Q. Am I able to opt out of Apple Pay at any time?

A. Adding your credit or debit cards to Apple Pay is your choice; you can add and remove cards when needed. To remove a card, go to Apple Pay, tap on the card, tap the "i", then tap Remove card.

Q. Which merchants are participating?

A. You can use Apple Pay at thousands of merchant locations, including Bloomingdale's®, McDonald's®, Macy's®, Nike®, DuaneReade™ and Staples®. You can also look for the contactless terminal logo and/or Apple Pay logo at participating merchants

Q. Can I use Apple Pay internationally?

A. Yes. Apple Pay will work on contactless terminals for international payments.

Q. What if my phone gets lost or stolen?

A. Apple's Find My iPhone website lets you suspend its ability to make payments. Or you can contact your

credit union, who can suspend Apple Pay for your credit union card. In any case, without your thumbprint or card information, a thief should not be able to use your phone to make purchases.

Q. What if my card is lost or stolen?

A. Contact your credit union as soon as possible. Once you receive your replacement card you can add your new card to Apple Pay.

Q. How do I return an item?

A. The merchant can process the return like any other return. To see the last four digits used by Apple Pay, go to Passbook, tap the card, and tap "i" to find "device number."Some merchants may need to "see" the card. You would follow the same steps you used when making the purchase.

Q. When paying in a store, if the merchant terminal asks me to choose Debit or Credit, which should I choose?

A If you choose Debit, you will be required to enter your PIN, which some backend systems may not be able to process yet. Choosing Credit will give you the most consistent experience.

Q. How do I get Apple Pay push notifications on transactions?

A. This is a setting on your device. Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services, select Passbook and choose "While Using."

Q. Is Apple Pay free?

A. Yes. Be aware that message and data rates may apply, depending on your data plan.

Q. What do I need to get started with Apple Pay?

A. You will need one of the following:

  • iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus to pay in stores and within apps
  • iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 3 to pay within apps
  • Software version iOS 8.1 or later
  • Touch ID™ or passcode on your device
  • iCloud® account
